About Me
I have been very fortunate in my life. I was born in Canada, a wonderful country, and live in what might be the most beautiful part of it. I am close to Vancouver and commute for work, but my home is in the country where I have two dogs, three cats, and a giant garden all under the shadow of a beautiful mountain that is close to the ocean. It’s a paradise for just being around things that are green and growing. I made a suite in my home for my mother so I can look after her as she no longer can walk as well as she used to.I have two wonderful children, a boy of 16, and a girl of 11. The children live with me part time, and also with their mother, my former partner who is now making a life on her own. I have long standing and deep friendships, many with former colleagues, as I have also enjoyed over 25 years of working for the Canadian Government in a variety of roles. I have a very fulfilling career.
My fathers fathers family immigrated to Canada with his entire village before the First World War. I am named for him, and I followed the cultural tradition and named my son for my own grandfather. My great grandfather’s people were a small minority, some call them Rusyns, others insist they are now Ukrainians. In our family (скворец) we mostly no longer speak the old words (except for the names for food!) but we follow some of the old traditions. We love hard work and what it produces. We love making our food and sharing it. We love to celebrate and be noisy, and we insist on a warm and loving home.
